The ALL ME® Podcast

S01 Ep 05:  CJ Wilson – Overcoming Adversity in Life and as a MLB Player

From the fields of youth baseball, through high school, the Minor Leagues and to the Big Leagues, CJ Wilson will give you an inside look in his journey through a successful 10-year career as a Major League Baseball player.

In this episode you will hear CJ share what early life was like as a young baseball player.  Did you know he was a kid his baseball coach told him to quit playing baseball and to play soccer?  It’s a good thing he didn’t take that advice.    For CJ’s entire life he’s been a hard worker dedicated to his craft and has always been a student of the game.

When CJ wasn’t drafted his Sophomore year of college he still had a burning passion to pitch in the big leagues, so he continued to work hard and study the game.  One of the stories CJ will tell is the day he was selected by the Texas Rangers in the MLB Draft in 2001.  Right out of the gate CJ was a dominant pitcher in the minor leagues and wanted to get to the big leagues just as fast has he could, he didn’t want to settle for what he had.

In 2003, C.J shares his stories about having to have Tommy John surgery and the work it took to keep in shape and get back on the mound when he was healed.  Be sure to listen to his story about being approached to use Anabolic Steroids and Human Growth Hormone (Appearance and Performance Enhancing Substances) to help shorten his path back to playing.  He was faced with a tough decision that many young people, both male and female, will ultimately face – use drugs or live and compete clean.

CJ gives us an inside look at to the pressure and butterflies that he felt the day he was called up from the bullpen to make his MLB Debut.  His stories about his first couple of starts and the batters he has to face are something you’re going to enjoy listening to.  This Two Time All-Star is going to share with us first-hand the steps he took each day to be at his peak performance both physically and mentally.

Wilson retired in 2015 after a successful career playing Major League Baseball at the age of 35.  In this podcast you’re going to hear about what CJ is up to these days, what his passions are and how he is keeping himself busy.
