S01 E10:  Bud Selig – 2005 MLB Congressional Hearings

Allan Huber “Bud” Selig served as the ninth commissioner of Major League Baseball and currently serves as the first ever Commissioner Emeritus of Baseball.  He served as the acting Commissioner of MLB from 1992 to 1998 and served as the Commissioner of Baseball from 1998 to 2015.

While serving as the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Selig was faced with dealing with the white hot topic of anabolic steroids.  This controversy led to the now famous 2005 Congressional Hearings which focused on this topic.  In this interview, you will hear Taylor Hooton Foundation’s Founder, who testified at those 2005 hearings, relive the moments of being a part of those hearings.

Two days after the hearings, Selig called Don Hooton Sr. at his house to offer his condolences for the loss of Taylor, and to ask how MLB could help in the efforts of enlightening the world to the truths about Appearance and Performance Enhancing Substances. In this podcast you will hear the details of that phone call and how it lead to 15 years of work and millions of young lives around the world who have been educated on this important topic.

Today Bud Selig loves watching baseball, sometimes up to 15 games a day!  He’s not only a huge fan on the game but you will hear how passionate he is about baseball and just how much the game means to him.  During his retirement, he still serves as the Commissioner Emeritus of Major League Baseball and teaches graduate courses at the University of Wisconsin.  He has recently written a new book “For the Good of the Game:  The Inside Story of the Surprising and Dramatic Transformation of Major League Baseball”.
