TAYLOR HOOTON FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL ALL-STAR GALA: MLB COMMISSIONER EMERITUS ALLAN H. “BUD” SELIG TO RECEIVE FOUNDATION’S INAUGURAL LEGACY AWARD
McKinney, TX (February 27, 2015) – The Taylor Hooton Foundation, widely acknowledged as the leader in the advocacy against appearance and performance enhancing drug use by the youth of America, proudly announces its First Annual All-Star Gala – “One Glamorous Night.” The Gala dinner will be held on March 28, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at The Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas.
The mission of the All-Star Gala is to grow the ability of THF to deliver its unique educational message to young people across the U.S., Canada and Latin America about the dangers of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drug use, including anabolic steroids, Human Growth Hormone (HGH), Unregulated Dietary Supplements, Energy Drinks and others. As a member of the local DFW community, the THF believes that the greatest support comes from those who know the organization best: friends in the local business community that form the bedrock of important fundraising efforts.
“Our All-Star Gala will provide our friends from across the Metroplex an opportunity to participate in and support our National Youth Outreach and Education Programs,” said Don Hooton, Founder and President of the Taylor Hooton Foundation. “We are excited to make the Gala a fun, glamorous evening where people who care about kids can gather to lend support for this important and unique mission.”
The All-Star Gala will recognize Major League Baseball’s Commissioner Emeritus, Allan H. “Bud” Selig as the inaugural recipient of the Taylor Hooton Foundation’s Legacy Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the fight against Appearance and Performance Enhancement Drug use.
“I am proud and honored to be the initial recipient of the Taylor Hooton Foundation Legacy Award,” said Selig. “I am especially grateful to the Foundation and to its founder, Don Hooton, for their efforts over the last 10 years in the struggle to rid baseball of steroids and other performance enhancing substances. Baseball has made great strides in eliminating the use of such substances and I thank Don and the Hooton Foundation for the important role they played.”
During Commissioner Selig’s tenure, he helped develop the toughest drug-testing and disciplinary policy in American professional sports. Under Commissioner Selig, Major League Baseball became a founding partner of the Taylor Hooton Foundation (in 2005).
Said Hooton in May 2010: “Major League Baseball has singularly dedicated more resources to supporting anti-steroid educational programs than any other entity in the United States, including the federal government.”
Commissioner Emeritus Selig will be in attendance on March 28th to accept this award. Tiffany & Co. will design and provide the Legacy Award, continuing a long history of partnership and support of athletes and sports.
Guests at the Gala will be treated to “One Glamorous Night” including hors d’oeuvres provided by local chef Kent Rathbun; a delicious dinner, open bar and exciting silent and live auction packages followed by a live musical performance by local Dallas band, Motion.
Ticket prices are $100.00 per person, with tables of eight beginning at $750.00. Sponsorship packages are also available.
The evening’s Host Chairs will be Pat and Cindy Fox, longtime friends and supporters of The Taylor Hooton Foundation.
“Cindy and I are privileged to have known Taylor, and what a fine young man he was,” said Pat Fox. “We are proud to support Don and Gwen (Hooton) and their Foundation in their selfless, heroic and relentless effort to spread the message that steroids are hurting our kids. We can think of no better cause to support than the THF.”
