AEGIS SCIENCES CORPORATION PARTNERS WITH THE TAYLOR HOOTON FOUNDATION
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 2, 2015) – Aegis Sciences Corporation, founded in 1990 as a sports anti-doping laboratory, and the Taylor Hooton Foundation, the national leader in the effort to a national campaign to end the rampant use of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs, anabolic steroids and dietary supplements among America’s youth, announced a three-year partnership beginning in 2015. This partnership will arm young athletes with resources and information to ensure they compete clean.
The Taylor Hooton Foundation is a non-profit corporation widely recognized at the national leader in the advocacy against Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drug (APED) use by the youth of America. The foundation was created in memory of Taylor E. Hooton, a 17-year old high school student athlete who took his own life in 2003 as a result of anabolic steroid use.
With joint efforts, the Taylor Hooton Foundation and Aegis’ Sports Testing Services aim to eradicate the rampant use of performance enhancing drugs through a national series of presentations and an online awareness campaign designed to educate young athletes about the risks of anabolic steroid use and dietary supplement contamination.
“As partners, we will have a unique opportunity to help spread a message about the dangers of appearance and performance enhancing drugs (APEDs) and the benefits of competing drug free,” said Mike Colello, MS, ATC, National Sales Manager for Aegis Sports Testing Services. “We are excited to partner with an organization that values clean competition.”
Don Hooton, THF President added, “We are excited to join hands with Aegis Sports Testing Services in an effort to insure that youth are receiving clear messages about the importance of playing clean. And, that the way to achieve their objectives is by eating right, working hard, and following the rules. Working together, we are confident that we can reach many more young people with these messages.”
The Taylor Hooton Foundation partners with Major League Baseball, the NFL, and many professional and collegiate sports organizations to educate young athletes, their parents and coaches about the dangers of APEDs other banned substances, including those potentially found in dietary supplements.
Aegis provides an educational tool, Aegis Shield, which identifies banned substances and their aliases in more than 135,000 dietary supplements, prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. Aegis Shield is available through a mobile app and website (www.aegisshield.com).
