NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Newtown Police Sergeant and a dispatcher, along with a State Judicial Marshal are among eight people arrested in a federal drug bust called “Operation Juice Box.” The US District Attorney’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies have been working on this long term investigation into steroid and prescription pill distribution. 38-year-old Newtown Police Sergeant Steven Santucci of Waterbury is accused of receiving steroids and related materials from China since 2011 and manufacturing and distributing wholesale quantities. Authorities say 46 year-old Newtown Police dispatcher, Jason Chickos of Bridgeport, was one of Sergeant Santucci’s customers and was distributing steroids in smaller quantities. Also, 33 year-old Judicial Marshal Jeffrey Gentile of Ansonia, is accused of distributing steroids. Five other people were arrested in the bust. During the course of the investigation authorities say they seized hundreds of vials of steroids, about 600 grams of raw testosterone powder, about 350 grams of powder cocaine, and four long guns. Officials aren’t saying where these men were conducting business or what time of day, but they did say that Sergeant Santucci was communicating with his customers using an app called “WhatsApp.” It’s the same thing as making a phone call, only it uses your phone’s internet connection instead of voice minutes. Roberta Pettit of Newtown says, “For someone to hold that high of a position and we trust, we put so much trust in them. This definitely makes me question the integrity.” Elllen Skrelja of Newtown says, “I’m curious as to if they were selling them to kids or what but it’s shocking it is.” Santucci, Chickos, and Gentile have been released on bond. They all face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000.
