Dark side of steroids: Amid the clamor attending Ramirez’s return, Texas activist preaches the story of his dead son

SAN DIEGO — Everyone wants to see the Dodgers’ Manny Ramirez. I’d rather see Taylor Hooton.

Everyone wants to wrap their arms around Ramirez — with jeers or cheers. I’d rather watch Hooton and his father, Don, share a loving embrace.

Ramirez will return Friday night against the Padres after serving a 50-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy. Taylor, a promising 16-year-old pitcher, is never coming back.
