Police have seized hundreds of vials of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone in Bunbury following an investigation
An 18-year-old Australian man is facing serious drugs charges over the haul. Detective Senior Sergeant Al McNevin of South West Detectives said for the past week, police had been working closely with Australia Post in relation to the supply of steroids to the Bunbury area from the eastern states. As part of the ongoing investigation, police seized several packages yesterday from post offices in the Bunbury area. The packages contained: ● 484 vials of testosterone based anabolic steroids ● 240 vials of human growth hormone ● 4900 tablets of stanozolol ● 1400 tablets of clenbuterol According to a recent article in the Medical Journal of Australia, clenbuterol — which is banned for use by professional athletes — is on the rise among amateur bodybuilders and those seeking to lose weight quickly.
Stanozolol is also an anabolic drug.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs would be about $120,000.Det-Sen-Sgt McNevin said: “The use of these steroids, especially when they are not administered medically is unsafe and illegal.“This is a huge seizure for the area and we are going to work continually with Australia Post and rigorously hunt the suppliers and in-between people in relation to this.”The 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and posses a prohibited rug with intent to sell or supply.He will face court at a later date and is on stringent bail conditions. Det-Sen-Sgt McNevin said further charges could be laid.
