A Sayville man who works as a Lindenhurst High School gym teacher and volleyball coach is facing charges of possessing anabolic steroids, according to Suffolk Police. Suffolk County Police arrested Kevin Muscarello, 40, on Sunday just after 11 a.m. near Vanderbilt Parkway and Commack Road in Commack according to published reports. Police allegedly caught Muscarello speeding, which led to him being pulled over. Now Muscarello is facing charges of possessing anabolic steroids with intent to sell, according to Suffolk Police. The Lindenhurst School District confirmed that Muscarello is a physical education teacher and boys varsity volleyball coach at Lindenhurst High School. He led the team to the state Division I finals just last year. District officials were reportedly told about Muscarello’s arrest late Monday due to the nature of the arrest and immediately reassigned him. “We have no reason to believe that Mr. Muscarello was distributing steroids to students,” Superintendent Richard Nathan said in a statement on the district’s website. “Our district will cooperate fully with the police and their investigation and we will continue to make the safety and well-being of our students and staff our top priority.” Nathan added: “Mr. Muscarello has been employed by the district for 11 years, had no prior criminal record and all appropriate due diligence in conformance with state law was exercised in his hiring.” Muscarello was released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on Nov. 6.
