COPENHAGEN – Norwegian ski world champion and three time Olympic medalist Therese Johaug tested positive for steroids, the Norwegian Ski Federation announced Thursday. Johaug tested positive last month for the anabolic steroid clostebol while training in Italy. According to the NSF, the steroid came from a cream prescribed to her by Doctor Fredrik S. Bendiksen to treat a burn on her lip. The Federation said the Doctor was unaware that the cream contained a banned substance. Johaug, a seven-time world champion and idol in her country, said she was using the cream when she was tested. She said in a press conference that she was confused and upset at finding herself in a situation that was difficult and unreal for her, insisting that she was innocent. This is the second case of doping that has shaken Norwegian ski this year. Anti-doping authorities in July took away Martin Johnsrud Sundby’s world cup victory and suspended him for two months due to erroneous use of his asthma medication.
