Gym Owner Indicted by Federal Grand Jury for Steroid Distribution Ring
A Morgantown gym owner and his associates were indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for operating a steroid distribution network. image Carl R. Benedict, 49, of Morgantown is accused of manufacturing, processing, packing, and selling compounds of human growth hormone and anabolic steroids through the internet using materials procured from China. Benedict, the owner of Club 24 Fitness, is accused of working with his associates Richard J. Pinelli, Jr., 27, of Mifflintown, Pennsylvania, Joseph B. Greco, 27, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Derek S. Starn, 33, of Bridgeport, and Anthony F. DiDomenico, III, 28, of Morgantown. Each person involved is charged with conspiracy to distribute human growth hormone and conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids.  Greco is also charged with smuggling and possession with intent to distribute human growth hormone. DiDomenico is also charged with mailing of controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute human growth hormone and maintaining a drug involved premises.  Pinelli is also charged with possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, possession with intent to distribute human growth hormone and one count of maintaining a drug involved premises. An investigation initiated by the Unites States Postal Service,  the Food and Drug Administration, the Mon Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration revealed the group’s activity, according to a news release from United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II. Also indicted in unrelated cases include: Barry Eugene Dragovich, 36, of Morgantown for possessing counterfeit obligations and securities and one count of uttering counterfeit obligations and securities.
