Tragedy struck a Florida community on Wednesday when a young athlete preparing for his first year of high school football collapsed following a morning practice at an off-campus preseason training camp and was unable to be revived. As reported by West Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV, the Orlando Sentinel and a handful of other outlets, 14-year-old William Shogran Jr. was pronounced dead at Camp Blanding, a military camp near Jacksonville where the Sebastian River High football team was in the middle of a preseason football training camp. The team left for the camp on Tuesday but returned late Wednesday following Shogran’s tragic death. The former homeschooled athlete was entering his first year at Sebastian River and his first prep football campaign. While no official reason for his death has been given, a recording of a 911 call made from the camp indicates he was suffering from heat-related illness. That call was reviewed by the Sentinel, and includes the discussion you see below:  “He suffered from heat issues. They got water on him, trying to cool him down. He’s conscious. Sporadic breathing. He vomited earlier.” Shogran was transported to nearby Shoals Medical Center at 11 a.m. and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The day after losing her son, Shogran’s mother spoke to reporters and gave no indication of bitterness toward school or medical officials, noting that medical professionals on the scene spent more than an hour attempting to revive her son. Rather, she offered a more universal refrain to help parents put other troubles in perspective. “Hug your kids all the time and tell them that you love them,” she told WPTV. http://usatodayhss.com/2014/08/14/florida-high-school-football-player-dies-at-off-campus-preseason-camp/
