Philadelphia Eagles starting offensive tackle Lane Johnson is facing a 10 game suspension for PED use, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The news was first reported by 94 WIP’s Darren DeGaetano. This is not Johnson’s first offense, as he was suspended for four games at the start of the 2014 season.  Johnson and the Eagles have not yet commented on the suspension. According to Rapoport, Johnson plans on appealing the suspension. The loss of Johnson is, without question, one of the biggest losses the Eagles could have suffered, as he is their best offensive linemen on a unit that is filled with holes. Johnson signed a five-year, $56 million contract this past offseason, making him the highest paid right tackle in the NFL. The Eagles plan is to eventually move him over to left tackle to replace Jason Peters. Now, however, the Eagles will be without Johnson for the first 10 games of the season, forcing them to patchwork an offensive line that was already going to be a potential weak spot on the team. With Johnson out, the health of Jason Peters now becomes even more crucial. Peters is not expected to play in the team’s preseason opener on Thursday due to a quad injury. The natural replacement for Johnson, when Peters is healthy, might be Matt Tobin, who head coach Doug Pederson has said is having an impressive training camp. The Eagles might need to go outside of the organization to replace Johnson, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them either sign a free agent or trade for a starting offensive tackle. http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/08/lane_johnson_suspension_1.html
