NCAA confirms suspension of Clemson star DT Dexter Lawrence

Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence will not play against No. 3 Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl after the NCAA confirmed a suspension Thursday for a failed test for performance-enhancing drugs, possibly ending the talented junior’s college career.

Lawrence is one of three Clemson players who tested positive for ostarine, a substance used to treat osteoporosis that can act like an anabolic steroid.

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt has been suspended 20 games for violating the NHL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, the league announced Sunday.

After being selected in the expansion draft last June by the Golden Knights from the Washington Capitals, Schmidt quickly became Vegas’ top defenseman during its run to the Stanley Cup Final.

About a year ago, Donald Hooton Jr. made a mental checklist — a wish list, really — of former Major League Baseball players he might want to join the Taylor Hooton Foundation’s board of directors.

On the list was Fred McGriff, a five-time All-Star, a two-time home run champion and a major contributor to the mid-1990s Braves team that created a division-winning dynasty and, in 1995, won the World Series.

Hughes honored to help Hooton end PED use

CINCINNATI — A group that works to eradicate performance-enhancing drugs like steroids in all sports, the Taylor Hooton Foundation actively recruits Major League Baseball players to help spread its message. The foundation announced this weekend that its advisory board of active players reached a record 38 players.
