Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt has been suspended 20 games for violating the NHL’s performance-enhancing drug policy, the league announced Sunday.

After being selected in the expansion draft last June by the Golden Knights from the Washington Capitals, Schmidt quickly became Vegas’ top defenseman during its run to the Stanley Cup Final.

NHL adds meldonium to banned substances list

The NHL has added meldonium to its list of banned substances.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed the addition in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday. It was first reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

The change goes into effect for the upcoming season. The NHL and NHL Players’ Association had to agree to add meldonium to its list of prohibited substances.… Continue Reading...

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Carter Ashton has been suspended for 20 games for violating the terms of the NHL and NHL Players’ Association’s drug policy.

Ashton says he unknowingly ingested prohibited substance Clenbuterol through an inhaler used to treat asthma.
