Andre Berto fails doping test; Ortiz fight is off

(AP) Former welterweight champion Andre Berto has failed a doping test, and the promoter of his rematch with Victor Ortiz says next month’s fight is off.

Berto denied using steroids Friday, but said he couldn’t explain the voluntary test that showed evidence of nandrolone usage.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said Berto tested positive last weekend, and a secondary test also came back positive Friday.Continue Reading…

The doping menace in Indian athletics continued as four more athletes were caught for using banned substances during the Federation Cup Senior National Championships in Patiala last month.

The ‘A’ samples of the four were found to have contained Stanozolol and Methandienone anabolic steroid and Methylhexaneamine stimulant.

Another MLB Player Escapes on a Technicality

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball dropped its 100-game suspension of Colorado Rockies catcher Eliezer Alfonzo for a positive drug test because of the same procedural issues that came up in the Ryan Braun case.

Alfonzo is eligible to play immediately, according to a person familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday night because no announcement had been made.
