Fitness guru Rich Clarke gives his views about the dangers of steroids

SOUTH Wales has been dubbed the steroid capital of Britain in the past, and as far as I can tell from the gyms I use, anabolic steroids are still a very popular choice for men in these parts.

The benefits are well documented but the dangers are often not talked about. Side effects include: mood swings, steroid addiction, acne, body hair growth, baldness, shrinkage of the testicles and breast development. If that little lot still doesn’t put you off, if you take it when you are young, it can make you infertile.

People usually take steroids to get bigger, so let me give you some tips on how to get bigger and increase your testosterone naturally. If you eat fats and carbs together you become naturally anabolic. Take on board potatoes and butter, rice and coconut oil, olive oil balsamic vinegar and rye bread — this will all put size on you. Eating is the key — not steroids. To put on size you must eat fats and carbs (and protein of course) at breakfast, post workout and before bed. To increase testosterone naturally:

Eat good fat — Testosterone is made from fats. Eat normal butter, eggs, grass fed steak/ beef with the fat on, avocados, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, nuts and seeds, and oily fish.

Avoid alcohol, processed foods and sugar.

Eat lots of green vegetables — this removes excess estrogen, which lowers testosterone.

Reduce your body fat levels — body fat produces estrogen.

Reduce your stress — if you are stressed take lots of vitamin C, this helps maintain testosterone levels.

Lift heavy weights.
