‘Bigorexia': steroids, men and muscle dysmorphia

More often than not, eating disorders and body image issues are concerns thought to be the preoccupations of young women. But what’s not widely understood is that men feel the burden of body dissatisfaction too, and increasingly so.

Bodybuilders flex their biceps

In response to a report from earlier this year about the rise of steroid use among young men, the president of the Australian Medical Association, Steve Hambleton said, “It comes with this wish to win at all costs and to attain the perfect body immediately. We worry about our girls with body image, but it is just as much young men we need to worry about now.”
