WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio spoke publicly for the first time Wednesday about the former city police officer accused of running a drug-trafficking ring.
DeWitt McDonald dealt anabolic steroids from his offices in Lake Worth and Wellington, and he may have forged prescriptions of the doctors who worked at his clinic, according to arrest documents.
“It’s intolerable,” Muoio said. “This cannot be happening in our police department, and when we realized what was going on this gentleman was fired.”
Federal investigators say Dewitt McDonald dealt anabolic steroids from his offices in lake worth and wellington…
In at least one instance, investigators said McDonald made a deal while on duty and armed with his service weapon. Investigators said he even sold steroids to other West Palm Beach police officers.
McDonald was one of 13 officers suspsended in 2006 for using steroids.
“Can I assure that no one else is using steroids?” Muoio asked. “I can’t. But if we find out that’s happening, they will no longer be employed.”
McDonald was fired from the force seven months ago, but outgoing Police Chief Vince DeMasi has refused to comment on this case.
McDonald faces at least five years in prison if he’s convicted.
